Leasowes Sixth Form
Subject to the DfE approving Leasowes academy status and becoming a member of the Invictus Education Trust, Leasowes plans to become part of the Invictus multi-site 6th Form provision, we hope to begin this exciting venture in September 2017.
Read below an introduction to the Invictus Sixth Form by Executive Headteacher/CEO of the Invictus Educational Trust Mr A S Griffiths OBE.
Dear Prospective Sixth Former
As you will read in greater detail further into the prospectus, Invictus is an exciting new development of a single Sixth Form, based on four school campuses. This means there is a fantastic fusion of a familiar secure base and opportunities to meet and study with new people as well as make a wider and different circle of friends.
Invictus will offer, as you would expect, a wide range of high quality academic courses. These will be taught by well qualified, talented and experienced staff.
We are also determined that the wider experience of being part of Invictus should be rich and varied. To get the best from your time in the next two years you will need to ‘throw yourselves’ into the life of the Sixth Form. You will have the opportunity to lead, organise and run clubs and activities all of which will serve you well in the future.
I promise you that if you ‘invest’ your time in this vibrant Sixth Form you will get a terrific ‘return on your investment’.
I hope you enjoy reading the rest of the prospectus and I wish you well in your deliberations and choices.
A S Griffiths OBE
Courses on offer at Invictus Sixth Form
There is a wide range of courses on offer at Invictus Sixth Form because we can draw upon the highest level of expertise and achievement from the four schools involved. As such, students have the flexibility to choose course combinations that best match their academic and personal goals and ambitions.
Students should choose subjects that they enjoy and are good at but they should also carefully research which courses will allow them to pursue their university or career choice before making final decisions. Staff will advise and guide students during the application and interview process should it be necessary.
A Level courses on offer include: Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Psychology, Sociology, Geography, English Literature, Music, Fine Art, DT: Product Design, Philosophy and Ethics, History, Physical Education, French, German, Computer Science and many more.
Level 3 BTEC courses on offer include Business, Health and Social Care, Sport and Performing Arts.
Students who have not achieved a ‘good’ pass will also be required to take resit courses in GCSE English and Mathematics.
Full details of all courses on offer can be found in the course guide booklet.
Applying to Invictus Sixth Form
Students can either complete an application form and send it to Miss J S Kendrick, Invictus Sixth Form, Ounsdale High School, Wombourne, Wolverhampton, WV5 8BJ or they can apply via UCAS Progress.
All students are expected to demonstrate their suitability for the courses they have chosen and must meet standard entry requirements of at least 5 A* - C grades at GCSE.
A Level / Combined A Level / BTEC Pathway
For those students wishing to study a full A Level programme, the expectation is that they will achieve at least 5 A* to C grades at GCSE, including English Language and Mathematics at grade 4, with usually a grade B (grade 6) in subjects they have opted to study in the sixth form. However, for those students without a grade 4 in either English or Mathematics and where this is deemed not to be detrimental to their possible success on their chosen courses then this may be allowed on a case by case basis. Students must also ensure that they check the individual entry requirements for their chosen courses in the course guide booklet.
Full BTEC Pathway
For those students wishing to a study BTEC only programme, the expectation is that they achieve at least 4 A* to C grades including English and Maths (grade 4) at GCSE with at least a GCSE points score of 40 or above.
Any student joining Invictus Sixth Form without at least a Grade 4 GCSE Mathematics and/or English Language will be required to take the GCSE resit course alongside their other subjects.
